Global Competence Program goes to Macau

Supported by the Chinese Cultural Exchange Association of Macau and the Macau Self-Reliance Think Tank, a group of Tsinghua students from the Global Competence Program visited Macau with Professor Hu Yu, the Administrative dean of the school of Journalism and Communication, from July 4 to 10. Learning and observing across the political, cultural, educational, and business sectors, the students looked into Macau's history and development, unveiling a diversified and dynamic image of the Special Administrative Region.

On July 5, Yao Jian, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macau SAR, met with the students and teachers from the program. According to Yao, Macau is continuously building a world tourism and leisure center, a service platform for trade and commerce cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, to create a base for cultural exchange and cooperation in China.

The development of cultural industries is of great significance to the shaping of Macau's image and economic rebound, said Yao. He encouraged the students of Tsinghua University to actively participate in the development of the Greater Bay Area.

The students also joined the Macau Legislative Assembly in a discussion. President Ho lat-seng gave positive comments on the purpose of the program and encouraged Tsinghua students to inject vital youth power from the Mainland into the future of Macau.
