Biography
Shen Yang is a dual-appointed professor at Tsinghua University's School of Journalism and School of Artificial Intelligence, serving as a doctoral advisor. He is the Director of the Metaverse Culture Laboratory and the New Media Research Center at Tsinghua University's School of Journalism. His primary research areas include AIGC (AI-Generated Content), new media, big data, online public opinion, and the metaverse. His interdisciplinary work spans multiple fields, including journalism and communication, computer science, and information management.
Shen Yang is a leading expert in China’s Internet research field, known for integrating theory with practice. He serves as an expert on nearly ten special committees of various ministries and commissions, holds positions such as vice president or secretary-general of several secondary academic societies. He is also a recipient of the Ministry of Education's New Century Talent Program. Remarkably, he was promoted to professor and doctoral advisor at the age of 34 and is the principal expert of a major National Social Science Fund project on Internet governance.
In the metaverse, Shen Yang has made significant contributions to theoretical research. His team has achieved first place or gold medals in several AI and big data competitions, both domestically and internationally. In collaboration with CCTV, he co-created China's first AI micro-short film, Chinese Mythology. The team has also produced over 10,000 AI-generated paintings, more than 1,000 AI-composed pieces of music, and his AI-generated short science fiction story, Land of Machine Memories, won second prize in a human competition. Shen Yang has published over 100 papers, holds dozens of software copyrights and patents, and designed a big data platform that processes more than 100 million data entries daily.
