Biography
Dr. Fan is a professor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University. She got her MA in Applied Linguistics in English at Tsinghua University in 1988 and then started to work as a lecturer at the university. In 2005 she got her Ph.D. in Cross-Cultural Communication at Oxford University, UK. During 1994-1997, she worked as the private secretary to the Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand. She was deputy chair of the Foreign Languages Department before she joined the School of Journalism and Communication in 2002. During the academic year of 2007-2008, she was visiting professor at Kean University in the U.S., where she taught Managerial Communication and Cross-Cultural Business Communication for their Global MBA program. In 2009 she was appointed as an adjunct professor of the Communication Department of Purdue University, USA. She was also invited by the Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA program to teach a Cross-Cultural Communication course at INSEAD in France.
Professor Fan’s research and publication are mainly concerned with cross-cultural communication, corporate communications, branding and image management, managerial communication, PR, and Corporate Social Responsibility. Her courses at the School of Journalism and Communication include English Journalism, Corporate Communication, Cross-Cultural Communication, and Public Speaking. She also teaches at the School of Economics and Management, where she teaches Managerial Communication course for EMBA and International MBA students, and Cross-Cultural Communication course for Tsinghua-INSEAD EMBA students.
Professor Fan is currently deputy director of the Academic Committee of China Public Relations Association (CPRA), academic director of Tsinghua Public Relations and Strategic Communication Institute, director of international programs of National Research Centre for Cultural Industries at Tsinghua University, executive director of Tsinghua-Ruder Finn CSR Program, senior research fellow of Research Centre for International Communication Studies of Tsinghua University.
Professor Fan is a recipient of many awards and grants, including the Chinese National Award for Excellent Teaching in Higher Institution, the Chinese National Grant for Excellent Teaching,Beijing Excellent Teaching and Research Award, Excellent Teaching Award of Tsinghua University, Excellent Teaching Awards for Tsinghua EMBA Program, Clarendon Grant (Oxford University), Hong Kong-Oxford Scholarship, Asian Studies Research Grant, Tsinghua Research Fund for Social Sciences, etc.
